A Spiritual Samson
By Brother Simon C.
Praise the Lord ACIFNA youth brothers and sisters!!! Our God has provided and blessed us with a great salvation! In these last times, the beginning part of our life and most important part of our life in Christ, it seems more important than ever to make our calling and elections sure (2nd Pet 1:10). I can remember how difficult it was at times to stand strong and make choices in confusing situations when I was coming out of darkness and into the light of Christ. At times regretting the decisions I had made I ran back to my God trying to regain the strength and direction I needed in order to stand strong in my Christianity and avoid making similar mistakes again. As the word of God informs us “…the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” (1 Pet 5:9) I hope that this will touch the lives of brothers and sisters today.
Considering this whole experience reminded me of Samson. His great gift from God was STRENGTH! And because of this when the Spirit of God was upon him he was the conqueror of the Philistines. But somehow he also became the reason for their rejoicing. When he was strong he was a mighty tool for the use of God. But some time after he found himself blind, bound, miserable, and surrounded by the cheers of Dagon. (Jdgs16:21-25) I can only imagine that he must have thought to himself, how did I come to be this in this place?
In this present world the strength of our Christianity will come from the Spirit of God, as we are encouraged in 1 John 4:4 …Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Though we cannot be as physically strong as Samson was, our inner man can become a powerful Spiritual Samson, shining through the outer man. When we live with the Spirit of God in us we become a mighty Spiritual Samson, ready to do the will of God. This world offers only a false life and meaningless experience (or darkness) to its victims. But the Spirit of God offers love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Gal 5:22-23) These qualities are the cure for a double mind. They create a life worth living (a life in Christ) and are also the characteristics of a mighty Spiritual Samson.
If we can examine Samson’s life for a minute we can see that his downfall came after he gave away his secret to the pressures of Delilah and laid his head on her knees (Jdgs 16:15-20). We can liken this to forfeiting the secret of God (1 Tim 3:16), the rock on which He built His church (Matt 16:18) and placing our minds on the knees of the spirit of this world. The secret of God is that which “the gates of hell will not prevail against” (Matt 16:18) so let’s keep it close to our heart and not trade it to the pressures of this world, after all it did not work out well for the first Samson so let’s avoid his mistake and keep our inner man a powerful Spiritual Samson. If we do this, God’s youth will be the conquerors of demons (and their works) just as Samson was the conqueror of the Philistines. Souls will be won to our great God, demons will tremble and pressures of this world will crumble under out feet! When Samson walked into a room all the Philistines around knew it. Ask yourself….are you ready to become a Spiritual Samson?
