The Cycle of Honor & Fall in the life of King Nebuchadnezzar

Brother Fitsum Kebede, Los Angeles

 ‘‘Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honour (Prov. 18:12)!

From humility to grace and honour“It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me. How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation” (Daniel 4:2-3). James wrote, ‘‘Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up’’ (James 4:10)! Consequently, he was blessed and flourished!

From honour to pride“As the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he said, ‘Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty? (Daniel 4:29-30). He couldn’t be able to give God the credit for what he achieved, rather he is puffing himself up! Proverb 16:18 says, ‘‘Pride goes before destruction.’’

From Pride and to disgrace and destruction – ‘‘While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you!  And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses. That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws’’ (Daniel 4:31-33). Jeremiah Prophesied and said, ‘‘Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
24 But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me,
That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness,
[j]judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,” says the Lord (Jer. 9:23:24).

From Disgrace back to Grace and Restoration –  ‘‘And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation…. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?” … I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.’’ (Daniel 4:34-36). In 1 Samuel 2:7 Hanna said in her prayer, ‘‘The Lord makes poor and makes rich; He brings low and lifts up. The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.’’

He concluded, ‘‘now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down’’ (Daniel 4:37)!!!
